  • Thousands of Nevadans who have either exhausted their unemployment benefits or are in danger of doing so are about to get some relief.

Money to fund the unemployment extension benefits has arrived in Nevada and will start being distributed on Saturday. State workers were on the job until 2 a.m. Thursday processing the money so it can be distributed.

"Some of these people have exhausted all of their benefits and they were not eligible for anything more. For some, it’s been weeks, perhaps months, since they saw any type of benefits come through," said Mae Worthey, Dept. of Employment, Training & Rehabilitation.

The money will help some 6,000 Nevadans who have already used up their benefits. Some unemployed will now be able to collect benefits for 99 weeks.

The payments for this extension total more than $4 million and are retroactive to the week of November 14th.

There were some concerns the money may not be available until mid-December or later.
